How to moisturize 4c low porosity hair. 4 Great Tips!

Hey everyone!
As we all know, keeping your hair moisturized and preventing breakage can be a challenge for many hair types. This is extremely true for very tightly curled 4c hair and low porosity hair types.

Here are some great simple hair tips to moisturize 4c hair types as well as low porosity hair.

Moisturize Wet Hair Immediately After Deep Conditioning.
One great tip is to moisturize your hair immediately after deep conditioning. After washing and deep conditioning with the Hydratherma Naturals products, section the hair in 4-6 sections. While still wet - to each section, apply the Hydratherma Naturals Protein Balance Leave In Conditioner (protein), Daily Moisturizing Growth Lotion (moisture) and seal in the moisture with the Hair Growth Oil (sealer). Then, style as usual.

Remember that water is the ultimate form of moisture but as we all know, we cannot walk around with wet hair all day long. Moisturizing the hair while in its wet state (after deep conditioning) will allow the hair to retain more moisture. This will definitely help to increase the moisture levels in your hair.

Hydratherma Naturals Protein Balance Leave In Conditioner
The Daily Moisturizing Growth Lotion and The Hair Growth Oil

These 3 products should be used daily on dry 4C low porosity hair to maintain a nice balance of moisture and protein during the week. It is not necessary to wet the hair before each use during the week. If you are experiencing dryness, this tip will help you a great deal.

Don't Moisturize Dirty Hair. Moisturizing Clean Hair Is Optimal.
Moisturizing dirty hair containing product buildup is a waste of time. To moisturize effectively, the hair cannot be dirty. The goal is to have the moisture penetrate the hair strand from the cuticle (outer layer) to the cortex (inner layer). The water based HydrathermaNaturals Daily Moisturizing Growth Lotion will penetrate the clean hair strand easily. If there is too much product buildup on the cuticle, the moisturizer will not be able to penetrate the shaft which will eventually lead to dryness and breakage. It is so important to keep the hair clean.

Know That Hair Oils Do Not Moisturize the Hair.
Many try to use "hair oils" to moisturize their 4c low porosity hair. Oil alone will not properly moisturize the hair. Oil should be used to seal in the moisture "AFTER" moisturizing the hair. We suggest that you moisturize first with the  water based Hydratherma Naturals Daily Moisturizing Growth Lotion and then seal in the moisture with our Hair Growth Oil. Water based moisturizers penetrate the hair strand easier and moisturize better. Stay away from mineral oil and petrolatum based products to moisturize because these substances will not penetrate the hair strand.

Don't Over Moisture The Hair
Did you all know that 'over moisturizing' the hair can cause breakage? If your hair is over moisturized, it will feel soft and spongy when wet. Hair in this state will break easily. If your hair is over moisturized, balance the moisture with protein. The HydrathermaNaturals Protein Balance Leave In Conditioner or our Amino Plus Protein DeepConditioning Treatment will help balance the moisture / protein levels. Once the hair is balanced, the breakage will stop and length / thickness will be obtained over time.

If you have 4c or low porosity hair, these tips will help to increase your moisture levels and prevent breakage.  Great hair practices and the right products will keep your hair healthy, moisturized and strong.

The Best Shampoo for African American Natural Black Hair. Hydratherma Naturals Moisture Boosting Shampoo

The Best Shampoo for African American Natural Black Hair.
                                 Hydratherma Naturals Moisture Boosting Shampoo

Hey guys!
Last year, the Hydratherma Naturals Moisture Boosting Shampoo was rated the #1 Best Shampoo for African American Natural Black Hair and the Best Shampoo for Curly Hair by BlackDoctor.org. They composed a list of Top 10 Moisturizing Shampoos for Black Hair and the Hydratherma Naturals Moisture Boosting Shampoo was #1. We were so honored to be rated #1 because we know that all of our products (including our shampoos) are all created with love and to be recognized means a lot to us.

The Hydratherma Naturals Moisture Boosting Shampoo was rated the #1 shampoo for natural African American hair because this stimulating shampoo contains multiple natural extracts including Seaweed, Algae & Sea Kelp with a hint of essential oils that will get your hair healthy and keep it there. It also delivers omega 3 and omega 6 essential acids to each hair strand which helps return the hair to its optimal 8% moisture level. Detangles, softens and hydrates the hair as it cleanses the hair and scalp. Infuses the hair with moisture without product build-up. Moisturizes the scalp, reduce dryness, decreases dandruff and regulates sebaceous secretion. We added high quality light proteins to help prevent breakage and strengthen the hair. Superb for brittle, slow growing and chemically treated hair yet great for all hair types including kinky hair, curly hair, straight hair, color treated hair and relaxed hair. This shampoo is very concentrated so please use sparingly. A little goes a long way.
It is also PH balanced and Paraben Free

The Hydratherma Naturals Moisture Boosting Shampoo is definitely a product favorite.

Instructions:
Wet hair. Apply no more than a dime to quarter size amount of shampoo to the scalp and squeeze through to the hair ends. Massage into a rich lather. Rinse thoroughly. This shampoo is very concentrated. For extra moisture, leave on hair for 3 minutes to allow for maximum absorption. Gently towel blot and proceed to deep condition with Hydratherma Naturals Deep Conditioning Treatment of choice.

Is your protective style really causing a hair setback?

Is your protective style really causing a "hair setback”?

Hey guys!
In this blog post, I am going to discuss the incorrect usage of protective styles.
Most of you already know what protective styles are but for those who don’t..... the definition is below.

Protective styles are “very low manipulation styles” that tuck away the length of your hair. If your hair ends are properly moisturized and tucked away, moisture levels will increase and ultimately breakage should decrease.

If your goal is length retention or obtaining healthy hair, we are all told that protective styling is the way to go. It should help protect those ends and reduce breakage. In most cases, this is true. Keeping those ends protected can aid in preventing breakage. Manipulating the hair very little will always be beneficial to natural hair (which can be extremely fragile).

If done incorrectly, protective styles can be extremely harmful to the hair. This can cause severe hair damage, extreme hair setbacks and absolutely no progress. I have seen many ladies wear protective styles nonstop, but still experience breakage and unquestionably no length retention. Before I was educated on the subject, I would wonder why some people would wear braids for 4-5 years straight and their hair would still be about 4-5 inches long??? If hair grew ¼ inch to ½ inch per month (for most individuals), why didn’t their hair grow extremely long after protective styling for such an extended period of time???

Here are a few protective styling traps that need to be avoided.

Sewin weaves / crochet braids
These styles can be AWESOME protective styles if done correctly. Unfortunately, I see this style misused the most. Many ladies will get their install and do absolutely NOTHING to their real hair. NO cleansing – NO deep conditioning- NO moisturizing. …..ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! If you stop giving your hair that extra TLC that it needs while protective styling, your hair will ultimately pay the price. While wearing these styles, we can’t forget to take care of our “real hair” braided under the commercial hair. Many wear these styles and just forget about their real hair for 2-3 months. Some people will not even cleanse their hair, not to mention deep condition. Cleansing, conditioning and moisturizing the cornrows under the weave on a regular basis are extremely essential tasks. Adding moisture on a regular basis to your corn-rows will keep your real hair moisturized and healthy. It will also prevent damage and breakage that can occur at the time of removal.  Extreme damage/breakage can occur while removing the commercial hair and taking down the corn-rows if the hair is not properly cared for. The hair will be dirty, dry and brittle. This is a recipe for extreme breakage.

Hair Tip
Every 2-3 days apply the Hydratherma Naturals Daily Moisturizing Growth Lotion to your corn-rows under the commercial hair to keep it moisturized. Then seal in the moisture with the Hydratherma Naturals Hair Growth Oil. Just apply a small amount to your fingers and massage into your braids and scalp. Both of these products contain Emu Oil which has been clinically proven to promote hair growth by the studies of Dr. Hollick.  You will notice that at the time of removal of your protective style, less breakage will occur because your hair has been properly taken care of.

Hydratherma Naturals Hair Growth Oil (with Emu)

Braids
Leaving braids in longer than 8 weeks can certainly cause damage (particularly in the nape area) and is not recommended at all if your goal is to retain length. We know that getting our “money’s worth” out of a hairstyle is extremely important, but keeping braids in for lengthy periods of time will cause unnecessary breakage at the root which will not lead to much progress.
Removing your braids and giving your hair a break in between sessions will keep your hair healthy. Also, don’t forget to cleanse, condition and moisturize. This is so very crucial.

The best choices
In my opinion, low manipulation styles without added hair are the best choices as far as protective styles go. Two strand twist, buns, flat twist and pin-curled looks can be easily taken down so that you can simply moisturize and treat your hair weekly.
Also, using certain types of braiding hair can suck the moisture out of your real hair and cause excessive dryness.  If you do decide to use commercial hair, be sure that it is high quality.
If protective styles are done properly, you will reap the benefits of healthy hair. If not, it will be very disadvantageous……  which is unquestionably not the goal. J

Happy Hair Growing!
